Compassion in Action--Designs by Erandeny Torres

Erandeny Torres is by far one of the most creative individuals I have ever met, every ounce of this woman is raw, unadulterated talent. I have worked with her as a makeup artist and designer for coming up on a year, and she never fails to surprise and inspire. The dress in the first and third shots posted here was inspired by the eathquake in Haiti and the effort both by the Red Cross and Haitians themselves to lend helping hands to one another. The dress recently won 2nd place (as well as the popular vote by a huge margin) in the "Art to Wear" competition sponsored by the American Red Cross. Mill's College Powwow

This year was my first time going to the Mill's College Powwow in Oakland, and the first outdoor one I brought my son to. These are just a few snaps of my family.

I've stopped shooting excessive photos of the arena, I have years upon years and thousands upon thousands of photographs that I have no idea what to do with. I've been considering the idea of a photo-book for several years now based on contemporary Native culture, showing both the sterotypical American idea of Native Americans (like in regalia at a powwow) as well as the "behind the scenes" of real life. My fam and I are taking a cross-country roadtrip this coming fall, from California down through the Southwest, into the deep South, then up through the Midwest and back. That would definitely be the opportunity I need to get the nationwide coverage I'd want for that kind of book. We'll see!

Bailey's Senior Portrait

This was the first portrait session I did specifically as senior portraits. I toned down my style a little to stay family friendly, but overall I think they were a decent mix of fun and simple.
